Library Philosophy and Mission
In support of the Severna Park High School mission, the SPHS library media program's philosophy is to help each student excel and achieve maximum potential by creating a 21st Century learning environment, fostering a love of reading, and promoting the effective use of information and communications technology. Through collaboration, the library media faculty partners with the community to empower students in becoming life-long learners, responsible citizens, and industrious problem solvers. The library is a source of exploration, discovery and learning. In an environment conducive to learning, the Library Media Center promotes the concepts of open access to information, intellectual freedom and a place where students will feel welcomed and safe, and can find a comfortable place to read or study. As an extension of the classroom, we believe that it is our major responsibility to not only guide students and teachers to the information each is seeking at the time but also offering additional solutions and resources. Students are encouraged to use the library media center, not only for reference and informational needs, but also for personal enrichment.
